(KTVI) – The St. Louis Cardinals were looking to take their rubber match with the Padres.  The strangest play of the night came in the 1st inning when Matt Holliday hit one off the top of the wall in right field and the outfield lost it allowing a run to score.

Holliday reached 3rd base.  That kicked off a three-run first inning for the Redbirds.  Tyler Lyons made his first Major League start and the lefty looked good.  He’d strike out four in seven innings of work and gave up one run on a solo homer in the 7th.

The bullpen would give up two runs, but the Cardinals hold on to win 5 to 3 and get Lyons his first Major League victory.
