OVERLAND, MO (KTVI) – A huge Powerball jackpot keeps growing. Saturday's jackpout will be an estimated $600 million.
That's not the only big prize out there. There’s also a $200 million Mega Millions prize.
Sales have been good. With millions of dollars on the line, there are plenty of people willing to cough up that $2 ticket price.
Student Amanda Thomas has Powerball dreams, “I am going to pay off all of my student loans if I win, and buy my dad a brand new truck. A lot of money for a few little things huh?”
Melaka Lakew says, “Invest it. Do something smart with it probably. That’s it.”
According to the Missouri Lottery, the odds of winning the Powerball are one in 175 million. If you do win and take the cash option, you can walk away with $375 million, something players are more than happy to take. The $600 million is the highest amount in Powerball history.
Andy Elpers has plans, “I would put it away and go on vacation, then back to work two weeks later.”
Lottery officials say be sure to sign your ticket as soon as you buy it and keep it in a safe place. The odds may be outrageous, but those buying tickets say you can’t win if you don’t play.
“Hopefully somebody wins it. Hopefully somebody wins it who needs it.”
The Mega Millions drawing is Friday night and the Powerball is Saturday night.
