WENTZVILLE, MO (KTVI)-Wentzville police thought they had a potential standoff on their hands Saturday afternoon. It turned out it was a tragic double shooting detectives are still working to explain.
A teenage boy called 9-1-1. Officers found him outside his home in the 200 block of Niagra Drive in the Stone Ridge Canyon subdivision. He was bleeding from gunshot wounds. They pulled him to a neighbor's driveway and then carried him to an ambulance at a staging area a block away.
Before moving inside the home, police called in the St. Charles County Regional SWAT team to determine if there was an active shooter inside the home. Nearby home were evacuated as a precaution. Once they were able to enter the home, they found the teen's mother, 44-year old Laurie Anderson, dead of gunshot wounds.
