(KPLR) – It can be one of the most annoying problems in a quiet neighborhood, a dog that won't stop barking.

I have heard from several viewers who each claim to have a neighbor who lets their dog bark for way too long.

Finding a solution can be tricky.  After all, if you tick off your neighbor he will probably add 2 more dogs to his back yard just to make a point.

Each city has its own ordinance to deal with dogs that like to howl all night.

Many ordinances simply say a dog owner cannot allow his or her pooch to bark for an unreasonable amount of time.

My advice is to try diplomacy.  Talk with the owner calmly.

If that doesn't work then it's time to check the laws in your city.

You shouldn't have to sleep with earplugs.
