DOWNTOWN ST. LOUIS (KTVI)- It was a rare chance to catch a music legend in St. Louis. Carlos Santana performed at Variety’s "Dinner With The Stars" gala at the Peabody Opera House Saturday night. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and winner of 10 GRAMMY Awards is #15 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Guitarists.
Mr. Santana said of the event, “It’s a joy to be of service…to serve young people who deserve all of us in our generation to be present for them.”
Santana is quick to point out that he doesn’t equate himself with being a musician, but rather a man of service to people around the world, especially children.
“The greatest fulfillment and satisfaction is when you look in young people’s eyes and you know that there’s a part of you that is making a very, very, very powerful imprint on their psyche,” said the musician. “Because at this point, it’s all about opening doors for them so they can believe they are significant and meaningful and they can make a difference in the world.”
So, it comes as no surprise, that when asked to perform for the Variety fundraiser, Santana agreed to do so free of charge.
Santana is working on a new album expected to be released by the end of the year.
