ALTON, IL (KTVI) – The results from a very close mayor’s race in Alton, Illinois, earlier in April will be officially certified Wednesday.

Long-time incumbent Mayor Tom Hoechst was upset by write-in candidate Brant Walker. The difference was just 74 votes.

Walker will officially be certified as the winner, but the saga may not be over yet. Hoechst could still petition for a recount.

The new mayor will be sworn in on May 8.
