GODFREY, IL (KPLR) - It was a frightening night for some Godfrey, Illinois residents who spent Wednesday's storm stuck on a boat.

When the storm swept across the area Wednesday night, it left extensive damage at Piasa Harbor. Strong winds and heavy rains destroyed the boat dock and shop. Boats were tossed around and landed on top of each other.

One boat owner talked about the scary moment when the storm hit. She says they had no warning when she was cooking dinner and a gust hit the side of her boat.

She told her guests they should leave and head for the shelter on land, but when they headed for the dock, it was gone. They were free floating on the Mississippi River.

Eight people were on the boat during the storm. No one was hurt.
