Ellisville Mayor Impeachment Hearing Continues

ELLISVILLE, IL. (KPLR) – Mayor Adam Paul's attorney, Chet Pleban, was on the attack Tuesday.

He blasted an attorney for the city, who asked him to speed up his questioning during the hearing.

"I do not look at the clock," he said. "I will take as long as I need to for due process for my client."

Mayor Adam Paul is accused of releasing confidential information, illegally kicking people out of council meetings and other abuses of power.

Mayor Paul told Fox 2 that the council was targeting him because he opposite a Walmart development.

No council members were free for comment on Monday or Tuesday.

Mayor Paul spoke exclusively with FOX2 before Tuesday's hearing.

"The council is smearing me," he said. "My attorney, Chet Pleban, will be a pitbull tonight."

Pleban confirmed Mayor Paul's statement during the hearing.

Pleban told the opposing attorney to "sit down" during a heated exchange about the "tone" he was using while we questioning a witness.

The impeachment hearing started Monday, but officials decided to break for the night after six hours.

During Tuesday's hearing, as of 10:30 p.m. only two witnesses had testified.
