ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Charges have been filed against a suspect in the drive by shooting of a 4 year old girl. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney`s office says 23 year old Nathan Pool faces multiple assault and armed criminal action charges.

Investigators say witnesses identified Pool`s car as the vehicle involved in the shooting Thursday night at 7:30p.m. The little girl was wounded while walking up some steps to a home in the 47-hundred block of Louisiana near Itaska.

The 4-year-old victim was taken to a hospital and has since been released.

Some of the nearby residents were shaken by news of the shooting.

"I though of my daughter," said Phillip Conway. "It could have been her."

Just this weekend a group rallied against gun violence in St. Louis. Some City leaders are hoping for tougher gun laws.

Conway believes there are too many illegal guns being sold on the streets. He also believes curbing violence will require a different sort of action.

"They ought to flush all the young guys out of here that are doing all the violence," said Conway.

Prosecutors say Pool was on probation. He received probation for a guilty plea related to drug and gun charges. Pool admitted possessing marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an illegal weapon.
