ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)-- There is buzz on the street that a world class international soccer match could make its way to St. Louis this summer.
Officials with Busch Stadium, along with officials in St. Louis soccer circles, are keeping very quiet about a friendly soccer match involving two English premier teams this summer at Busch Stadium.
But that is not stopping the soccer fan circles from digging up the dirt and spreading it around the town.
St. Louis soccer historian and author Dave Lange recently heard the rumor about a soccer game featuring two internationally famous teams in St. Louis.
The other team named in that article is Manchester City, which would match up two for the premier league's top three teams in a friendly match at Busch Stadium early this summer.
The word has spread through St. Louis soccer circles, but no one can seem to get official confirmation from anyone here in town.
Soccer fans at Amsterdam have heard the rumor as well, and are keeping their hopes very high.
With St. Louis' rich soccer history, to all these soccer fans, bringing a game like this to Busch Stadium seems like a no-brainer.
If this rumor turns out to be true, it will be a return to Manchester City to St. Louis for the first time in 55 years.
In 1958, Manchester City beat the St. Louis CYC All-Stars 6-2 at Public School Stadium.
