BELLEVILLE, IL (KPLR)-- State budget cuts are forcing big teacher cuts at two Metro East school districts.

In Collinsville, the school board decided to cut 19 teachers, which includes some part-time positions.

On top of that, the superintendent says nine support staff positions were eliminated.

The district needs to cut $2.4 billion from the 2013-2014 school year.

The superintendent says the state already owes them $3 million and fears more cuts for the 2014-2015 school year.

School board members in District 201 Belleville have approved the layoffs of three full-time and one part-time teacher.

More staff reductions could happen at next month's meeting.

The superintendent's office says Illinois owes the district more than $2 million.
