GODFREY, IL (KTVI)- Felony charges have been filed against a man who allegedly broke into Metro East storage units and later sold what he had stolen from inside. Several storage units at Self Storage in Godfrey, Illinois were burglarized on Sunday, February 17, 2013. According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect cut through the chain link fence that surrounds the facility and forced entry to twenty-eight individual storage units.

Electronics, video gaming equipment, televisions, and other household items were among the property taken.

The investigation linked Adam Roberts, 24, of Godfrey, IL, to some of the stolen property. He was tracked to a home on Seminary Road in Alton, Illinois, but he was in the process of moving out. He was not found at the home but Sheriff’s Deputies did locate additional evidence in the case.  A search warrant was obtained March 7, 2013 and more stolen property was recovered from the home.

Later March 7, investigators located Roberts to a home in 3000 block of Edsall Street in Alton. He was questioned and held in the Madison County Jail pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.  Charges were filed Friday.

Investigators have recovered approximately $1,000.00 worth of the stolen property. Several pieces of costume jewelry, watches, and some DVD’s that were recovered have yet to be linked to a victim. Investigators have learned that Roberts and/or an accomplice sold some of the stolen property to members of the community.

Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who may have purchased items from Roberts since February 17, 2013. Some of the items investigators are still looking for include a black compact refrigerator, televisions, fishing equipment, professional wrestling DVD’s, paintings, an antique chest of drawers, an oval mirror, and a sewing machine.
