Crystal City Fire Chief Tony Bova said a 911 call came into dispatch around 3 Wednesday morning. At first, the caller said a dumpster was on fire near the Bandana's. But, Bova said one firefighters could see the fire from his home. Actually, an eight-foot meat smoker that was attached to the restaurant and was burning. By the time crews arrived, the restaurant had flames coming out of the windows and the roof.
Bova says the wind has made this fire extremely tough to fight. The restaurant was still burning almost two hours after the first call for help. He called for a second alarm which brought fire departments from all over Jefferson County to the scene, but also into the fire houses so firefighters could answer any other calls if necessary.
Bova said he called the Missouri State`s Fire Marshall to the scene, but he may not know an official cause until Friday afternoon.
