(KPLR) - You might soon see gas pumps go through an overhaul. Stations in the St. Louis area are dumping those annoying plastic sleeves that cover the nozzle.

The plastic was an EPA requirement. The idea was that they would capture harmful fumes.

The good news is modern advances in the auto industry mean that cars now capture those harmful fumes so we don't need those plastic sleeves anymore.

The plastic sleeves are expensive to maintain so the new pumps that will look just like the old pumps should save gas station owners some money.

Filling up won't take as long; it should be easier and cheaper.

I just don't know why it took this long to go right back to where we were.

I'm JB and that's the way it oughta be.
