(KTVI) – Ezekiel Eliiott has been featured in our sports reports several times.  He’s been selected as our Athlete of the Week, and we’ve talked about his being selected for the Army All-American Bowl.

Of course we also covered high school signing day and this top recruit’s choice of Ohio State.  Many had hoped he would choose his home-state Missouri university instead.

Apparently the media in Columbia did not, however, do enough stories about the star high school player.

Social media chatter has increased now after some quotes from Elliott’s father make it sound like media coverage in Columbia was not what they expected – and that played in to the John Burroughs running back’s choice of Ohio State over Mizzou.

Ari Wasserman writes about Ohio State for the Buckeye Sports Bulletin. He interviewed Elliott’s father, Stacey Elliott.  He posted this quote from the father:

“Mizzou lacked the same type of influence Ohio State had,” Wasserman wrote. “They used Elliott’s multiple visits to Mizzou and the fact that nobody wrote about it as an example. Stacy Elliott admitted that the passion, the coverage and just the overall following at Ohio State blows Mizzou out of the water. For the coverage part, you’re welcome 🙂 The Elliotts admit to still being blown away by how much support there is for the program. No matter where they go, people recognize Elliott.”
