The Chicago Tribune reports that O’Hare International Airport, Midway Airport, and Southwest Airlines have cancelled more than a combined 1,000 trips. The cancellation comes in the midst of the “Windy City” seeing up to 10 inches of snow today.

The city is preparing for the snow by taking several precautions. At least 280 trucks took to the main streets by salting to combat the initial touchdown of snow. Officials also authorized 182 snowplows to clear roads.

Hundreds of schools have taken the day off due to the weather. The flights affected by the initial cancellation were those scheduled between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.
