ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher Chris Carpenter addressed the issue that he may miss the 2013 season due to a re-occurring injury.

Carpenter said that he will not participate in Spring Training because he does not want to be a distraction. “I’m not ready to go down there and throw,” he stated. “I’m going to go ahead and rest and wait till our guys get back.”

When the physicians come back from Spring Training he plans to get re-evaluated.

Carpenter said he’s not willing to have surgery again, but is willing to do anything else.

When asked if he considered retiring he said, “I don’t think I’ll ever retire. I won’t say that word.”
