NEW YORK, NY. (KPLR) – Larry Mendte weighs in on a recent Christie comment that is bringing him some attention, he may not want.

Chris Christie is a national celebrity who can hold his own with Oprah, Barbara Walters, John Stewart and even David Letterman who makes fat jokes about the governor all of the time.

It was brilliant, but brilliant at a cost, the donut stunt caused the media to once again focus on Chris Christie’s weight, the question is he too fat to be president is a valid one.

Right now Christie is in a surprising virtual tie with Hillary Clinton in that hypothetical run for president.

The only Christie sized president was William Howard Taft, who weighed 335 pounds and once famously got stuck in the white house bath tub.

That was before television, in the last 50 years only one president has weighed over 200 pounds, Bill Clinton who weighed 216.

It`s not the weight so much, but the health problems that comes with the weight; that`s why it is fair to ask the question for someone who wants to lead the free world, are you going to lose weight.

And it was that answer that makes me believe Christie will spend the next two years losing a lot of weight; he will become a national role model, making him even more imposing as a candidate.

And if he can`t do it; the race for president will be that much more difficult and if he gets to the White House, he may want to consider showers.
