(CNN) — CBS has renewed “How I Met Your Mother” for a ninth season, but it’ll also be the comedy’s final run.

According to Entertainment Weekly, everyone – Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan – will be back, along with creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.

Twentieth Century Fox Television Chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman said in a statement that they’re “thrilled to have the entire and incredibly talented ‘How I Met Your Mother’ cast back for one final season to bring the series to a proper close.”

Echoing the sentiments of CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler, Walden and Newman continued, “Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are masterful and hilarious storytellers, and we have no doubt that they will guide one of the greatest comedies of the last decade to a gratifying conclusion when they finally reveal the identity of the Mother.”

For his part, Bays said in a press call Tuesday that fans should be watching for stray pieces to start to fit together.

“We’re hoping to pay off every loose end before the end of the series, whether that’s sooner or later,” Bays said. “We never rule anything out on the show. We keep any door open, which is perhaps maddening for some.”
