ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- A group of students and adults in the Parkway School District are planning a trip to Washington. Toby McQuerry, a social studies coordinator with the district, is one of 18 adults heading to Washington, D.C. to capture the moments of the second inauguration of President Barack Obama.  McQuerry says it's a trip that brings history to life.
"For them, it`s going to help them cement their education they had in social studies.
You know, since kindergarten, they've been studying about our nation's history,  the landmarks and symbols of the United States. For many of them, this will be a great experience," said McQuerry.

Students are also excited about the experience. Eighty-four students from the districts five high schools will load up into buses and make the 15- hour drive to D.C.  It costs about $400 for each student to go. Students like Madeline Thomas and Kara Motley say it's a trip of a lifetime.

"I'm really excited. I've never been to Washington D.C. and I'm looking forward to all of us coming together to celebrate our president," said Thomas.

"As a young person in America, I hope in the future that we can learn more to compromise because we've been having issues with that lately. And coming together for the inauguration of the president is a good start," said Motley.

The group is also keeping track of their activities and experiences on a Facebook page made specifically for the trip.

"It will definitely help people become more unified. We all have one goal in life to be happy and everyone should just respect that," Thomas said.

The group leaves at 10pm Friday night and returns on Tuesday.
