ST. CHARLES, MO (KPLR)-A rodeo in St. Charles Saturday night will celebrate the life of a young Cardinals fan from Kentucky who captured the heart of St. Louis. The Thumbs up for Lane Goodwin campaign rolls on and is picking up steam in the months since his death from a rare form of cancer in October. The rodeo will benefit the cause he cared so much about: raising awareness of childhood cancers in the hope of finding cures.
The event started controversially. A woman from Illinois contacted the Lone Star Rodeo Company about having a benefit rodeo, saying she was from the “Thumbs Up” foundation, saying she already had sponsors lined up. She had official looking fliers and sponsor donation forms. The trouble: Lane’s family didn’t know the woman. They didn’t know about the rodeo either.
But volunteers stepped in, legit ones this time, to make the rodeo a reality. The LoneStar rodeo is Saturday night, January 5th, at The Family Arena in St. Charles. One half of all sponsorship money and dollar from every ticket sold will go to the foundation.
