ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- It was an emotional day on Capitol Hill for Senator Mark Kirk and his family. The Illinois republican made a triumphant return to congress one year after he had a serious stroke.

Vice President Joe Biden was there to greet the senator.

Kirk made a remarkable recovery after having to learn to walk again.

The 53 year old celebrated by making the 45 step climb to the capitol building.
