HIGH RIDGE, MO (KTVI) – Jefferson County Sheriff Glen Boyer says a couple was assaulted in their home on Wild Valley Drive in High Ridge, Missouri, Monday morning.

The Sheriff’s Department says one man entered the couple’s home, hit the husband on the head with a pistol and forced the wife into her car. The car was then driven toward the jewelry store the couple owns.

The husband was able to call 911. Police located the woman’s car and a chase ensued. Police stopped the car on Hillsboro Valley Park Road where a foot chase occurred. One shot was fired, but no one was hit.  The suspect was captured.

Derrick Stewart, 34, was charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Kidnapping, and Assault 1st Degree.

Stewart is currently being held in the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Jail on no bond.

The husband suffered a head laceration and the wife has a dislocated shoulder.  Both victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment and observation. Both were later released.
