ST. LOUIS, MO - (KTVI)  From icy wrecks to power outages, the first storm of the season left its mark in Illinois.

It stopped snowing, but frosted windshields, dusting of snow and slippery blacktop were all proof that winter`s here, even if the season doesn`t officially start until Friday.

Since the sun went down, it`s gotten icier. Employees at the Alton City Hall had to scrape their windshields before driving home Thursday evening.

Illinois State Police said the ice could`ve contributed to several weather-related wrecks they responded to Thursday, most were in Madison County.

Thursday`s high winds also caused several thousand power outages in the Metro East area. Strong winds got up to 50 mph in Alton on Thursday, rattling FOX 2’s news truck.

FOX 2 also found gas stations, restaurants, businesses and homes without power in the St. Charles area.

Emergency repairs had to be made to the roof at Hoech Middle School.

In northern St. Charles County, FOX 2 found a dusting of snow. But it`s the wind that’s caused the most problems throughout the St. Louis area.
