CLAYTON, MO (KTVI) - Florissant police officer Mike Vernon spoke with John Pertzborn Friday morning about his recovery after being shot while on duty. Vernon is now paralyzed from the waist down.

Vernon was responding to a burglary call when the suspect hid behind a strip mall. Investigators say the suspect jumped out and opened fire.  Vernon was hit three times.

Brian Cannon, Jr., the man accused of shooting Vernon, was to make an appearance before a judge Friday morning. That court hearing was continued.
