NORTH ST. LOUIS, MO. (KPLR) – A home near Enright and Kingshighway was destroyed by a fire Friday night.

Firefighters said when they arrived the home was "fully involved."

"We did not even send anyone inside," Chief Paul Davis said. "We took a defensive position."

The home was vacant, but firefighters feared the fire would spread to surrounding homes.

"Those homes were occupied, so we wanted to make sure we got it under control quickly," Davis said.

Sabrina Branhan said the blaze stopped her in her tracks.

"I was driving, but then I saw all the huge flames," she said. "It was just fire everywhere."

The gas company was called to the scene as a precaution.

"Thankfully no one was hurt in this fire," Davis said.
