ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- Construction is set to begin on St. Louis County's new state of the art crime lab.

The $9.2 million facility is being built on the 4th floor of the county police department building and will be three times the size of the current facility.

County officials say the new lab will help reduce a back log of cases and allow them to hire more scientists to process evidence.

It's scheduled to open by the end of next year.

Pictures of the old crime lab are posted below.
