(KTVI) – An Illinois mother was sentenced to 20 years in prison after she was caught on video trying to suffocate her baby. Samantha Garrett brought her six-month-old son to a hospital and complained that he was having trouble breathing in Feb. of 2010. Doctors could not figure out what was causing the problem, so they decided to perform a sleep study.

The baby was hooked up to monitors and a video camera was set up to record him sleep. The video revealed that Garrett was covering his mouth and nose with her hands. The baby survived and is now living with relatives. Garrett was sentenced in October.
