AUSTIN, TX (KXAN) - Texas state officials are intervening in a lawsuit over displaying faith-based signs at a high school football game.

Cheerleaders at Kountze High School and their parents sued after the school district banned them from displaying banners with Bible verses at games.

The school district enforced the ban after receiving a letter from an atheist organization.
Texas Attorney General announced today (Wednesday) the state is taking the side of the cheerleaders' right to exercise their personal religious beliefs.

The Attorney General says the banners are constitutional because the cheerleaders made them on their own time with their supplies.
