DOWNTOWN, ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) - The vast majority of Cardinal fans didn't let a three and a 1/2 hour rain delay chase them from Game 3 of the NLCS at Busch Stadium Wednesday.
The game started at 3:07p.m. and didn't end until almost 7 hours later.
Still, the ball park looked and sounded like there was no rain delay at all.
There were empty sections in the outfield by the time Cardinals pitcher, Jason Motte, got the last out to preserve a 3-1 Cardinal victory and give St. Louis a 2-1 series lead. But players were impressed by the number of fans who never left.
With Cardinal baseball still being played October 17th, fans said they'd spend the night in the ballpark if necessary.
One couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary, snacking on nachos during the delay. Their first date was a Cardinal game 21 years ago.
A father and his 7 year old daughter rode out the storm; the girl dancing in an empty section of seats, splashing in puddles and posing for pictures for her dad.
The Giants Pablo Sandoval had thrown her a ball during warmups.
"Kung Fu Panda !" she exclaimed, referring to the player's nickname.
Another boy roamed the ballpark during the delay hoisting a huge home-made sign featuring several flying Cardinal birds and the World Series trophy. He said he was trying get on TV.
He did; only after the game on FOX 2.
Those who stayed said a big part of the fun was hanging out with fellow Cardinal insdie the ball park, during the long delay.
The Cardinal victory made it more than worth the wait.
