WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KTVI) - Tuesday is the day many in Webster Groves have been waiting for. A major artery that connects I-44 with the Webster Groves business district along Big Bend Boulevard is reopening.
That major artery is the Murdoch Avenue Bridge. It`s been closed since April for some much needed repairs but today it is reopening! The shut down created some major headaches for residents and area businesses.
That`s because people lost the most convenient way to get in and out of the Big Bend business district. Tim Brennan, the owner of Cravings- a restaurant, bakery and catering business close to the bridge- tells us his business has been down 50% since the bridge closed.
Webster Groves Mayor Gerry Welch says the impact of the bridge closure on the area has been significant but that the work was needed. A ribbon cutting is set for 9:00 a.m. Tuesday to celebrate the new bridge.
Then the new Murdoch Avenue Bridge will reopen to traffic. The project cost $2.1 million-- a lot of that was federally funded.
