ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A Ferguson man is charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of a St. Louis County police department employee.

Hosie Taylor, 36, was formally charged with murder Wednesday. He's being held on $1 million cash only bond.

Investigators say Taylor beat and strangled 51-year-old Dierdre Exum last Friday in her North County home then set it on fire. Investigators say a witness saw Taylor leaving Exum's home after it was set on fire, and her blood was found in his car.

Xhum worked as a security guard for the St. Louis County Police Department about four years. Relatives say she loved her job, helping people, and spending time with her family.

Visitation for Xuhm is Friday morning at 9am at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services follow at 11am.
