WOOD RIVER, IL (KTVI) - A Wood River man is charged after allegedly stabbing his father to death Friday morning. Police were called to a two-story home at 9:40am Friday and found a man dead on his front porch.

The murder happened in 100 block of South 9th Street in Wood River, Illinois.

Police received calls about a man pacing the neighborhood and acting strange.  When they arrived at the home, they discovered the body of Glen Thompson, 67, stabbed to death on the front porch.

Police say they believe the victim’s son, Justin Thompson, 23, stabbed his father with a kitchen knife after an argument.

“There was some type of disturbance. When officers arrived, they discovered a deceased person. He had several stab wounds. A suspect was taken in to custody,” explained Chief Steward.

Police say the two men lived in an upstairs apartment. The owner of the home is an elderly woman. She lived downstairs and wasn't at home at the time of the stabbing.

Police say they found the son in the upstairs apartment when they arrived. He was taken to Alton Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police took bags of evidence from the scene.

Thompson is currently undergoing a mental evaluation and can face between 20-60 years in prison. He's being held without bond and is charged with first degree murder.
