SOUTH ST. LOUIS, MO. (KPLR) – Prostitutes can be found on Grand, Chippewa and Broadway almost 24 hours a day, according to the St. Louis Police Department.

Residents told FOX 2 many of them carry cups, as a signal to potential "johns."

"Almost 90 percent of them carry those cups," Vernon Roberts said. "I see them all the time."

City officials are working on an ordinance that would result in tougher penalties for "johns" and prostitutes.

"I think that is a great idea because those guys are the ones who are picking the girls up," Roberts said.

Police said most of the women are on drugs.
