COLUMBIA, MO (KPLR)-- Democratic Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill is skipping the convention, and focusing her attention on a contentious battle against Todd Akin.

Tuesday, she is spending time with students at the University of Missouri and Westminster College in Fulton.

It is part of her "On Our Campus, On Our Side" listening tour.

McCaskill reminded students she fought to make sure low student loan rates were extended to keep college affordable.

Akin is on the record comparing government funding of student loans to stage three cancer.

Many supporters have pulled money from Akin's campaign after his comments about rape and abortion.

However, Claire McCaskill told supporters in Springfield Monday she thinks that won't last long.
