ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - Summer fun is about to end for students. And their parents are gearing up for back-to-school shopping.
That trip to the store could save parents some money this weekend.
Clothes, school supplies, computers and computer accessories qualify for exemption from the state's 4.225 percent sales tax.
Teachers are eligible for the break if they use their own money to buy items for the classroom. It also applies to online purchases ordered but not delivered during the tax holiday as long as payment is made this weekend.
The Better Business Bureau urges consumers to do their homework before going to the store.
Now some cities, counties and taxing districts will not participate.
The Missouri sales tax holiday runs from 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 3rd until midnight Sunday, August 5th. Illinois retailers are not offering the tax break.
