Court Ruling – Taking Sick Time During Your Vacation

ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - I brought my chair to the airport because suddenly Europe is sounding like a good place to go.

That's because Europe's highest court just ruled that if you get sick on vacation you are entitled to re-take your vacation.

I find the ruling hard to believe but it's true.

I threw my back out once in Orlando and I had an ear infection on Anna Maria Island but I would love to see the look on my boss' face if I told her I needed to retake my time off.

We have a different attitude in the United States, at least I hope we do.

We all know about Europe's economic problems.  I can't say re-taking vacations have contributed to their problems but I do know it doesn't help.

Sick days are a reason to stay home from work.  Not to re-take vacations, as much as might want to.
