So when it comes to shovelling money into politics, who are the fattest of the fat cats right now? Number one is Sheldon Adelson. Adelson owns casinos in vegas. He and his family so far this year have given over 26 million dollars to the unlimited money so-called super political action committees. Adelson's a conservative republican and was a Newt Gingirch supporter. His top issue is support for Israel.
Also near the top of the list is Harold Simmons. He's an 80 year old plus Dallas businessman who's given around 18 million dollars so far this year. He supported Texas Governor Rick Perry. His top agenda item, to stop the man he calls, "That Socialist" President Obama.
Also giving a lot is another conservative Texan. He is a homebuilder named Bob Perry who's given around seven million to conservative political action committees. Perry was one of the prime movers behind the smear campaign against democtratic presidential nominee John Kerry in 2004. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
Then there's Peter Thiel. He's a top hedge fund manager. He's coughed up around three million dollars. Much of it is given to an outfit called, Endorse Liberty. That's a political action committee supporting republican libertarian congressman Ron Paul.
Notice anything in common? They're all conservative. They're all white. They're all male. And they're all, each in their own quiet way, trying to buy an election.
I'm Charles Jaco and that's Jacology.
