St. Louis Company Failed To Provide Gravestones To Customers

BELLFONTAINE NEIGHBORS, MO (KPLR)-- More than 60 customers filed complaints to the Missouri attorney general after the standard monument of St. Louis company failed to provide the gravestones that customers ordered and paid for.

Last week, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced a settlement with Jeffrey Thomure, the owner of the now closed Standard Monument Company.

The settlement required Thomure to complete ten graves that were never received by customers, and pay $4,700 in restitution to 5 other families.

As of Thursday, several families have not seen a dime or gravestone.

The Missouri attorney general required Jeffrey Thomure of the Standard Monument Company to provide ten families with the tombstones they paid for but never received by Friday, June 15th.

The Scott family assumed their father Charles' grave would be one of the gravesites finally served with a proper gravestone. They thought wrong.

Charles Scott's gravesite has been sitting in New Bethlehem Cemetery since February of 2010 with only an empty rectangle where a tombstone should be. A sight that still leaves the Scott family without closure.

The Scott family was one of eight families to testify against Jeffrey Thomure in court, and the settlement that resulted in $4,700 has them baffled.

The Scott family believes that the settlement with Thomure did not fit the crime.

The attorney general press secretary told FOX 2 they will file for criminal contempt against Jeffrey Thomure if he does not obey the settlement.

FOX 2 also spoke with two other families that declined to go on camera that still have not received refund or job completion from Jeffrey Thomure. Thomure could not be reached at his home for comment earlier Thursday.
