Interstate Reopens After Cattle Truck Overturns

CASEYVILLE, IL (KPLR) - The westbound lanes of Interstate 64 at I-255 have reopened after being shut down for nearly nine hours. A tractor trailer hauling cows overturned after an accident involving at Ford Focus.

The truck flipped on it's side around 1:30 a.m. with about 65 cattle on board. Two people suffered minor injuries, but there is no word on what actually caused the crash.

Four cattle had to be shot and killed because they were roaming I-255 just after the crash. Around 7:00 a.m., another cow got away and trotted across the highway before authorities were forced to shoot that animal as well.

Cattle had to be transferred from the flipped truck onto another truck so they could be taken to their destination.

Traffic was backed up for miles for hours.
