(KPLR) - A warning from Florissant police worried that scam artists are trying to profit off an injured police officer.  The police say scammers are calling people claiming to be with the department and asking for donations on behalf of Mike Vernon.

Vernon was the officer shot three times Monday morning while responding to a burglary call.

The department wants to let the public know they are not soliciting donations over the phone for any cause and to please contact them if they get a call.  There is a fund set up to help officer Vernon and there also is a fundraiser planned Saturday night at Joe’s Pub and Grill in Florissant to raise money.
