ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - There are safety concerns from MoDOT as a series of major road projects on three interstates get ready to start on Friday.  The biggest worry; a stretch of I-44 near Eureka where lane shifts will take place Friday night at seven, crews will shift two lanes of westbound 44 to the eastbound lanes.

It`s part of an ongoing pavement repair and resurfacing project.

The shift means there will be two lanes going each way on the eastbound side of 44;a third lane will be added going west during the evening rush hour.

That third lane will be on the west side of the freeway.

This set up will continue until mid-September.

Friday before that 44 lane shift, MoDOT will completely shut down a stretch of Highway 40 west of downtown from Broadway to 21st.  That will happen at 10:00 am Friday morning; the lanes will reopen by 3:00 am Monday morning.

As if those two projects weren`t enough, listen to this one.
Next Tuesday, MoDOT will completely close 270 both ways from Manchester Road to Big Bend for up to 15 minutes at around ten in the morning and then again at 1:30 in the afternoon.  The closures are needed because crews have to blast rock to add the fifth lane to 270 in each direction in that area.

There will be more complete 270 closures like that one, during the weekdays all summer long as that blasting continues.
