Honor Student In Texas Sent To Jail For Truancy

HOUSTON, TX. (CNN) - Theirs outrage in Houston over a judge sending a 17-year-old honor student to jail for truancy.  Diane Tran works two jobs to support her two siblings, who her parents left in her care after they divorced and moved away, leaving her in charge.

Despite missing a lot of school because of exhaustion, Diane still maintained excellent grades in advanced honors classes.  But a judge said that doesn't matter and made her spend the night in jail.

The judge said quote, "if you let one run loose, what are you gonna do with the rest of them? Let them go too?"
