BEVERLY HILLS, MO (KPLR)-- A quick-thinking Beverly Hills police officer helped diffuse a potentially dangerous child abduction investigation.

The suspect was the child's father.  Police eventually determined he did have a legal right to take his child, but as of Tuesday night their investigation was continuing.

FOX 2 was the only news crew at the Beverly Hills Police Department when the father and child arrived just as an APB was being issued.

The child's grandmother said the 6-year-old girl had been taken from her home without the mother's permission.

That mother had just sought a temporary order of protection against her husband.  Beverly Hills Police say that order was granted but the father had not yet been served.

Police will ask the St. Louis County Prosecutor to charge the father with parental kidnapping.

As the father pulled into the police station on Natural Bridge he started shouting at the grandmother.

An officer who was inside the police department interviewing the child`s mother ran outside and handcuffed the father for questioning before tempers could flare.

The girl was interviewed and told police she had not been harmed.  She was in tears as her mother held her inside the police department but appeared to be okay.
