JOPLIN, MO. (KPLR) - Joining hands and hearts in Joplin as hundreds of community members mark the one year anniversary of the devastating tornado. Many took to the streets to be part of the unity walk, part of the "day of unity" to show the nation the community's strength and resilience following the deadly disaster.
Tuesday morning, children grabbed shovels and started building their new futures during a ground breaking for a new elementary school. A similar ceremony happened about an hour ago for the new Joplin high school.
A moment of silence will be held at 5:41 pm, the time the storm hit.
Multi-media journalist Jonathon Davis takes us back to his hometown to how survivors are keeping the hope alive.
