MIDTOWN, ST. LOUIS, MO. (KPLR) - When these eighth graders from St. Simon`s got off their mystery bus they were told it there’d be Ted Drewes.  Instead they got a couple of Cardinals.

'David Freese and Matt Holiday,' says 14 year old Travis Nixon.  'It was awesome we were sitting on the bus over there and everybody stood up screaming cause we saw them pull up in the cars and it was great.'

The redbird representatives were on hand for Cardinal Glennon 'Homers for Health' home run derby championship.  The two are taking part in the promotion where pledges for every 2012 Cardinals home run have grown to 2,688 per homer

'You see what you do to kids how you affect them whether you're on the field or off,' says Cardinals infielder David Freese.  'To see it, it's amazing.'

Today 67 students from 18 schools did their best to hit a dingers like Travis Nixon.
He spent some time at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in 2006 after his family, returning from a vacation were hit head on by a drunk driver.

'My son was hurt pretty bad both legs,' recalls Karen Nixon.  'One was a compound fracture it actually damaged his right knee above the growth plate it stop growing.  His left leg was two inches longer than his right leg.'

'They've got me in so many times when I've been rushing and my screws were starting to go through some of the muscle causing irritation,' remembers Travis Nixon.  'I got it a week before Thanksgiving on Wednesday they've removed casts for me removed pins and stuff.  They're amazing.'

Not only did they deliver Holiday and Freese, but they also got the Ted Drewes.
Which was pretty cool on a hot day.
