ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - Thousands of families came to Washington University to celebrate commencement with their students. The ceremony took place at Friday morning, but visitors should expect traffic troubles to last through Friday afternoon.

The school handed over 5,000 undergrad and graduate degrees.

Richard Mahoney will get an honorary degree. He is the former CEO of Monsanto. But not everyone was happy to see him receive this degree. Several students and alumni turned their backs on Mahoney when he received his degree.  Washington University has several buildings named after Monsanto and the corporation funds several fellowships.
