BELLEVILLE, IL. (KPLR) - The streets are lined with tents, as one of the biggest art fairs in the nation gets underway in Belleville.  Bommarito Automotive SkyFox was over Art On The Square.   FOX2 Multimedia Journalist Jonathon Davis has more on what the fair has to offer and how it's grown into such a large scale art event.

“His show has a tremendous reputation its one of the best in the country”

Belleville’s Art On The Square is not your average fair.

“I think what separates us is that we are a very small fair we have a 100 to 105 artist every year.”

“This one has a special quality about it the enthusiasm of the community they all come out and what to support the artist that’s really honorable.”

This show attracts artist from every state and many nations.

“Yeah this year we have a much nicer situation with the weather and I hope to se record crowds and I'm sure the show organizers do to.”

Eleven years ago Patty Gregory and 25 of her best friends started this fair.  They started out with 275 entries, since then they have averaged over a 1,000 in what is now known as the #1 art show in America.

This all volunteer show averages over a million dollars in sales. This year they sold $117,000 dollars in gift certificates prior to opening.
