(NEW YORK) - Why would President Obama suddenly support gay marriage?  I don’t buy for a second that his position has evolved as he said in his speech yesterday.

And by the way, can’t Mitt Romney who is accused of flip flopping; also say his positions have just evolved.

And I don’t believe he had a grand epiphany either; if you believe that, you are in for a rude awakening about the Easter Bunny.

No this was a political calculation.

Joe Biden first tested the water over the weekend and supported gay marriage.

That way the campaign could float it and see how America reacted.

When is seemed safe, the president supported gay marriage in an interview with Robin Roberts that was leaked out.

And then and only then did the president make his nationally televised announcement that he was for gay marriage; but wasn’t going to do a single thing about it.

And if you still don’t believe this was a political maneuver, the Obama campaign was all ready to go with an ad today.

The question is why?

Polls show the nation is split on gay marriage; but presidential elections are decided state by state in truth, twelve states will decide the election.

And the president won almost all of those states last election, his decision about gay marriage probably lost him many of them, like North Carolina; where they just passed by a landslide that marriage is between a man and a woman.

The president’s campaign is run by smart people; so I just can’t figure this out yet, unless they think they are in real trouble.

Or maybe President Obama is that rare politician who is making a stand because he believes in his heart it is right and the political repercussions don’t matter.

Nah, that can’t be it.

I’ll figure it out and get back to you.
