ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - The wife of St. Louis Cardinals baseball Hall of Famer Stan 'The Man' Musial passed away Thursday night.  She was 91 years old.

Her name was Lil.  She had been sick for some time.  But the love of her life was by her side until the very end.

Lil and Stan were high school sweethearts.  They married in 1940.  Together, they enjoyed the many highlights of Stan`s stellar career.  But they were also a military family.  Lil led her household, by herself, while Stan served in the United States Navy in 1945.

Because she was sick, the last time she was seen in public was in 2011.  She saw Stan received the Presidential Medal Of Freedom.

We do not have a cause of death just yet, but we know she was not alone.  Lil Musial died around six Thursday night.  Stan's grandson issued a family statement shortly afterward saying, "Stan and the family were by her side. We will all miss her dearly."

The Cardinals organization also released a statement.  It read, "We have lost a valued member of the Cardinals family.  The entire Cardinals organization extends its sincere condolences to Stan, their children Richard, Gerry, Janet and Jean, and their eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren."

Lil Musial was 91 years old.

We would like to know if any fans have stories of Lil-and-Stan sightings.  We want you to share your memories of this romance.
